The intention was to get a couple groceries and head to K-Mart for some junk. It turned into a dumpling dinner.
It’s been a while since we had an impromptu dinner date. Turns out we were both hungry and despite my best efforts on day 1 to eat better, I really don’t take a lot of convincing to throw it out the window. I’d prefer to call it a cheat day. Even if I’m only a day in. Better to fuck up on the first day than the 7th. I can always start again tomorrow without guilt.
We walked past a couple restaurants that were allowing people to dine-in and without a pre-booking which to be honest is a rarity these Covid days. They were all selling more or less the same stuff but lucky for me I’ve been craving a good dumpling for about a month. It’s one of those things I used to eat so often. I’d sometimes go out after work and get take away on my way home or me and a bunch of friends would go for dinner. Those days are long gone.
Dumplings in the city are a dime a dozen though. And there a lot of good cheap ones around. Out in the suburbs you don’t have that many to choose from and finding one that doesn’t cost you $16 for 10 basic ones is also rare. Now I want to make it my business to find the best cheap dumplings in my area. I wonder if I could do it…
- Steamed Pork Bun
- Vegetarian Spring Rolls
- Braised beef brisket with rice
- Special fried rice
- Pan Fried Chicken and Shrimp Dumplings
- Pan Fried Pork and Chive Dumplings
- Spicy Wontons in Red Chili Oil with Peanut Sauce
What can I say? We like variety. I can’t help but feel like I’ve rubbed off on Brendan with that one because he eats a lot more than he did when he first came to Melbourne. He knows now, we can’t have just one thing. There must be at least 5 dishes. And if we can’t finish it, all good. We take it to go.
To summarize the food real quick.
I will admit I did order more than I could eat (as usual). All good though. They allowed me to take it home.
It was nice going out to eat instead of ordering in.
One positive today besides food – I drank a lot of water.
