Last weekend we added 4 new kids to our little family.
About 6 months ago a friend of mine gave me her fish tank which was probably 6 times bigger than the one I had my current fish in. This huge tank has had one rather large goldfish swimming around alone. So we changed that last Sunday.
Introducing our new kids:
So Brendan picked 2 and I picked 2. We also named 2 each and judging from the names, if you know us you’d be able to pick who named who.
We also deliberately bought 4 different breeds. All “fancy” Goldfish but I wanted different ones to document their growth and see how they change visually from each other. We got a Ranchu, Red Cap Oranda, Ryukin and an Angel Tail.
The size difference between the new 4 and Slappy is pretty big though. When I first put the babies in the tank Slappy chased them for a second. I’m guessing he thought they may have been food. I mean the guy has been living in a tank alone for 4 and a half years and suddenly he had roommates! I gave him alittle bit of a talk before dropping them in. Just told him that he has to be a good role model, act like a big brother. After the initial shock of the kids not being food they stayed separated for 2 days. Slappy at one side of the tank and the kids in the other. But it’s great now. Everyone’s getting along. No gangs. No separation. They’re all swimming together which makes me happy.
It’s funny though. Turns out I like fish. And Brendan does too. It’s been great waking up in the morning and going to the tank. They know it’s feeding time so they all go the window and start shaking, almost like they’re having a spasm. It’s adorable.
So there it is. Our 4 new buddies. Can’t wait to take monthly pics of them to show how their progressing.
